About Matthew Black:

Matthew Black is currently the percussion director at the Perennial Grand National Finalist Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He has taught nationally recognized programs around the country such as Carmel (IN), Ben Davis (IN), and Kennesaw Mountain (GA).

He is heavily sought after as a music and visual clinician teaching music, drill, and choreography to bands across the United States. As a familiar face in Drum Corps International and Winterguard International circuits Matthew has worked both as a performer and teacher. Most recently Matthew worked with the Blue Stars Drum Corps, the Phantom Regiment Drum Corps, and the Cavaliers Indoor Percussion Ensemble.

Matthew is an active clinician and adjudicator for both the indoor and outdoor marching activities. He has presented clinics on marching percussion, keyboard percussion, arranging, and amplification in the marching activity throughout the U.S. and Asia. In his time away from teaching he enjoys audio engineering—mixing and mastering for professional artists, as well as sample creation, voice-overs, and audio slicing for marching bands and winter guards.

He proudly endorses Vic Firth and Zildjian percussion equipment.
