Careers in Audio was created to introduce the many career options available in the entertainment industry. Everyone watches television and films, we all listen to music, however most people are unfamiliar with all the jobs involved in bringing these sounds into our lives. Many audio professionals have been asked the question What is it that you do?” In answer, we have brought together this group of working professionals in a variety of diverse sound jobs. Our Goal is to introduce these careers to you and maybe even give you some viable options that you may want to aspire to in the future.

Marcos Contreras CAS

Marcos Contreras CAS was born and raised in Puerto Rico, Marcos found a love for TV and movies early on in his life. He followed this path and has been living and working as a production sound mixer in Los Angeles CA for more than a decade. He is experienced in a variety of projects but where he found the most success was in the reality and unscripted world. His credits include the show The Real Housewives of Potomac and Shahs of Sunset for Bravo and Singapore Social and Made in Mexico for Netflix. Most recently he was the sound mixer on the revival of Reno911! where his expertise in the unscripted, fast paced style of filming became a great asset to keep up with the hilarious improv comedy.

Greg Hedgepath MPSE

Greg Hedgepath works as a supervising sound editor at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, California. He attended the University of Maryland and later received his AA degree in electronics while working at National Public Radio in Washington D.C. as a mixer. He then worked at George Lucas’ Skywalker Sound for 6 years, then moved to Los Angeles as a rerecording mixer at an independent post facility, later joining the union as a sound editor at Sony Studios. After Sony Greg became an independent Sound Supervisor and Sound Designer. He created the sound for the tornados in TWISTER, was a sound designer on the Academy Award winner SPEED, and has worked on over 90 films including FROZEN, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THE HUNGER GAMES, SELMA, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON and the upcoming COMING 2 AMERICA to name a few.

Alan Meyerson CAS

Recording engineer/mixer/producer Alan Meyerson CAS has spent most of his career since 1994 recording and mixing scores and soundtracks for motion pictures, television, and video games. He’s done over 300 projects ranging from Lion King, Gladiator, Shrek, Pirates of the Caribbean, Traffic and including six Chris Nolan Movies (The Prestige, Dark Night, Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk) and different styles of films like Greatest Showman, Sing, and many others. Video game titles include Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, which he co -produced. Halo 4-5-6, Gears of War, Call of Duty and many others.
He’s worked extensively with James Newton Howard, Harry Gregson Williams, John Powell, Kris Bowers, Daft Punk, Danny Elfman, and many others including enjoying a long-time relationship with Hans Zimmer with whom he’s done over 100 movies.
Before he found his calling in music for media, Alan was in the record world. He started by mixing dance music in the early 1980’s with some of the great New York producers. He moved to Los Angeles and continued mixing R&B and pop records, doing close to 250 records. Still, to this day, he dips his toe into the record world, recently mixing Moby’s latest album and an orchestral release with Deadmau5.
In the last decade Alan has added teaching and mentoring to his interests. He does a yearly seminar in France with “Mix with the Masters’ and master classes at Berklee School of Music.

Sherry Klein CAS

Sherry Klein CAS is a Post Production Re-Recording Mixer for Television and Film. She is currently living in Los Angeles, Ca. working with Smart Post Sound. Some of her credits include New Amsterdam, Queen of the South, Burn Notice, Sons of Anarchy, and The Shield.
Sherry started her career as a musician, studying classical music composition at Webster College in St. Louis, Missouri and then Jazz Arranging and Composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston. She later moved to Los Angeles and worked with Larrabee Studios as a Recording Engineer before moving into Post Production Mixing.
Throughout her career she has worked with an array of outstanding talent in both the music and film/television industry. She is on the Board of Directors for both the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) and the Entertainment Industry Professionals Mentoring Alliance (EIPMA).. She is also the Chairperson of the CAS Student Recognition Award ( SRA).

Michelle Sabolchick Pettinato

Michelle Sabolchick Pettinato is a professional concert sound engineer. For the past 30 years she has traveled the world working with artists like Gwen Stefani, Adam Lambert, Kesha, Goo Goo Dolls, Styx, Elvis Costello and many more. She is Co-Founder of Soundgirls.org and a Full Sail Hall of Fame inductee. In 2019 Michelle created MixingMusicLive.com to continue sharing her knowledge and expertise with aspiring sound engineers, musicians, and producers.

Jett Galindo

Los Angeles-based mastering engineer and vinyl cutter, Jett Galindo of The Bakery, has worked on albums spanning a wide array of genres and artists–Haley Reinhart, the La La Land OST, Barbra Streisand, the Jaded Hearts Club, to name a few. Graduating with summa cum laude honors from Berklee College of Music, Jett joined the famed Mastering Labin 2013 as the sole right-hand woman to pioneer mastering engineer Doug Sax. During her years at the Lab, she worked on various notable vinyl releases including Pink Floyd’s final album “Endless River”. Most recently through The Bakery, Jett has helped pave the way for the growing audiophile releases in the video game industry, mastering for award-winning artists & releases such as Lena Raine’s Minecraft: Nether Update OST and Rozen & Reven’s Legend of Zelda “Children of Termina” album. Outside of mastering, Jett also serves as a contributing writer for various trade publications and organizations (iZotope’sLEARNportal, WomeninSound, SoundGirls, etc.).

Lauren Johnson

Lauren Johnson is a caffeine loving, red-headed dog mom and a rare woman in a technical field. She has worked in post production houses such as the Fox Theatrical Editorial Department, to working as an Audio Systems Maintenace Engineer at Margarita Mix Hollywood — a division of Fotokem, a Pro Audio Solutions Specialist at Avid and currently as a Post Production Sound Engineer at Walt Disney Studios. She is also on the Board of EIPMA (Entertainment Industry Professionals Mentoring Alliance) and a member of the Cinema Audio Society. She has an extensive technical background in post production and music recording/mixing workflows and is passionate about mentorship and education.

Karol Urban CAS MPSE

Karol Urban CAS, MPSE, NATAS has served directors and producers as a re-recording mixer for television and feature films since 1999. Focusing principally on documentaries early in her career in Washington DC, she now lives in Los Angeles where she currently mixes for television and film. She describes her job as “playing mind games with sound.” As a perpetual student of her craft, she enjoys exploring the power sound has to immersive the viewer in the narrative.
She is an involved member of her community having served on the Television Academy’s Governor’s Peer Group for Sound Mixing, organized events for The LA Sound Group, and served as a blue ribbon panel judge for the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reels. Karol acted as content editor of the CAS Quarterly and served as a board member for the Cinema Audio Society before being elected as President of the organization in 2019. She enjoys educational outreach and has moderated panels for Mix’s Sound for Film Event as well as for AMPAS.
Some of her recent credits include:  Stephen King’s The Stand,  Grey’s Anatomy, Single Parents, Big Sky, and Project Bluebook.

Bernard Weiser MPSE

Bernard Weiser MPSE is a professional sound supervisor / editor / designer who has worked in Hollywood over the last 36 years. His passion, commitment and expertise have earned him a reputation as highly regarded and much in demand. As a result, he has worked on over 135 feature films including Steven Spielberg’s SCHINDLER‘S LIST, THE HURT LOCKER, and the just released COMING 2 AMERICA. Bernard earned Emmy nominations for DEADWOOD- MOVIE and for TRUE DETECTIVE. He is currently working on Michael Mann’s TOKYO VICE. Bernard is President of the Entertainment Industry Professionals Mentoring Alliance, Vice-President of the Motion Picture Sound Editors, and teaches Sound Design at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film & Television’s Graduate Program.
